Dave Barnes for St Clair County Township Supervisor

About Dave Barnes

Dave Barnes for State Representative 114th

“Coming from a background of being self-employed and knowing that if you don’t work, you don’t eat. Most of my life I have been active in the community and church. I want to continue to work for you. With my experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies, and get things done.”

While serving the residents in st. Clair  Township as their Supervisor I was able to upgrade Loop Creek Park, work on developing a childs play area in Centennial Park, along with maintaining and upgrading numerous sewer lines, and upgrading the work vehicles. Also, reduced the sewer rate, being one of the lowest if not the lowest rate in the county. My belief is that if you don’t have the money than don’t buy it. I was able to receive grants totally over $100,000 to help upgrade the parks.

Dave is an extraordinary man with an extraordinary career in public service.

It’s time for equal opportunity, equal rights, and equal justice. It’s time for an economy that rewards those who actually do the work. It’s time for a State Representative who will stand up for all of us. Are you with us?

Issues and Experience

My Experience

  • Supervisor of St. Clair Township estimated population of 33,000 people,
  • Elected Director of the Township Officials Supervisor Board of Illinois,
  • Open Meetings Act Officer.
  • Prepare the Annual Budget= work with the trustees to make sure money is available for needed work.
  • Treasurer for Road and Township: All township funds
  • Oversee three office staff and three field staff plus a temp in summer.
  • Prepare annual tax levy
  • Negotiate union contracts
  • Responsible for over 100 miles of sewer lines and 16 lift stations serving approximately 6500 citizens.
  • On call 24/7j
  • Pursue grants for four parks, including three tennis courtsand two playgrounds.
  • FOIA Officer
  • Always looking for ways to earn more interest off the money the township has.
  • Open door policy to meet with Township Residents
  • Supervise the General Assistance Program.
  • Prepare monthly agenda for board meetings.
  • Chairman of the township board
  • Must be bonded
  • Responsible for a sewer plant that serves approximately 3800 customers.
  • All problems are the Supervisor’s responsibility with the exception of the road.  The buck stops here.

I will work on lowering taxes, which will help employers hire more people which would create additional payroll taxes.  With people working, it would create more home buying, more property taxes and consumer spending would create more sales tax.  That is why I believe lowering taxes creates more tax revenues for all levels of governments.

As the St. Clair Township Supervisor, I’m proud of the fact that I have reduced the township real estate taxes my first year and kept the tax levy request the same for the next seven years.  Unlike some folks that want to continue to raise your taxes every year, I want you to keep more of your money in your pocket.  I will look very strongly at ways to reduce your taxes upon becoming your State Representative.

I'm Voting For Dave Barnes

According to Rep. Charlie Meier, “I am proud to support Dave Barnes for State Representative, He will fight for the taxpayers by supporting balanced budgets, reduce wasteful spending, and reject lawmaker pay raises. Dave will do what is best for Metro East taxpayers, he isn’t afraid to stand up and say ‘enough is enough’ to the Chicago politicians running our state into the ground.”

In the 114th, my friend (and member of this closed group) Dave Barnes is taking on LaToya Greenwood.  Greenwood’s previous victories against a shockjock (2016) and an underfunded challenger (2018) have been underwhelming.  Against a quality, motivated candidate like Dave, she is vulnerable.

The NFIB Illinois PAC’s support is based on the candidates’ positions and records on small-business issues. “Our members support candidates who support small business,” said Mark Grant, NFIB state director for Illinois. “These candidates clearly understand the vital role small businesses play in the state’s economy and are committed to creating an environment where they can expand and create jobs.”

“Dave Barnes is an experienced public servant. Serving as Supervisor of St. Clair Township, Director of the Township Officials Supervisor Board of Illinois, and an Open Meetings Act Officer, he has been a champion tax fighter for the people of St. Clair County and will stand up to the Madigan regime in Springfield. I am proud to support Dave Barnes for State Representative in the 114th District.”
